Matific Awards More than $20,000 in Prizes to Schools, Classrooms, and Students

The top three schools from the Matific Math Games Competition will receive $1,000 in Matific licenses plus cash awards of up to $3,000

(New York, NY) March 12, 2019 –– Matific, an award-winning education technology company offering immersive math games for K–6 students, is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Matific Math Games Challenge, a free, online math competition aimed at improving American students' confidence and math skills in the classroom.

“Matific offers our hearty congratulations to the winners of the Matific Math Games, and we’d like to thank all of the participating schools for joining in this exciting competition,” said Lawrence Korchnak, vice president of Matific. “During the Matific Games, millions of math questions were answered by students across the United States. In fact, if it were up to the students, 92% of them would love to keep using Matific well after the Matific Games. We hope this competition gave students the chance to find a new appreciation for math and learn how math skills can help them to accomplish larger goals in life.”

The top three winning schools are as follows:

  • First place, winner of $3,000 cash plus $1,000 in Matific licenses: RCMA Wimauma Academy, Florida
  • Second place, winner of $1,500 cash and $1,000 in Matific licenses: Immokalee Community School, Florida
  • Third place, winner of $500 cash and $1,000 in Matific licenses: Canyon Heights Academy, California

Matific takes a unique approach to teaching K–6 math, using hands-on and interactive mini-games that enable a blended learning approach in which teachers can select relevant episodes to integrate with hands-on math explorations in their classrooms. This process of guided self-discovery deepens students’ cognitive understanding, as well as their sense of personal achievement, and has also been shown to improve test scores by 34%.

During the Matific Math Games Competition, students completed activities on the app to earn stars (or points). The more activities they completed and the better they scored on those activities, the more stars they earned. Every student won at least one star per episode completed, with the potential to earn a maximum of five stars per activity. Each student also had the opportunity to replay each activity up to five times during the course of the competition, in an effort to improve their score.
